Frequently Asked Questions: DTF Transfers by Monster Transfers

General Questions

What are DTF (Direct to Film) Transfers? Direct to Film (DTF) is a modern printing process where designs are printed onto a special clear film, coated with a heat-melt adhesive powder, and then cured. Once ready, the film can be heat-pressed onto a wide variety of fabrics, including cotton, polyester, blends, and even leather.

Why should I choose Monster Transfers for my DTF needs? Monster Transfers specializes in high-durability, vibrant, and soft-hand feel transfers. We use premium inks and TPU adhesive powder to ensure your designs don't just look great out of the box, but also withstand 50+ washes without cracking or peeling.

What kind of garments can I apply DTF transfers to? One of the biggest advantages of DTF is its versatility. You can apply our transfers to almost any fabric, including 100% cotton, 100% polyester, poly-cotton blends, nylon, canvas, and denim. Unlike sublimation, DTF works perfectly on both light and dark-colored garments.

Ordering & Artwork

What file format should I send for my designs? For the best print quality, we require high-resolution files (300 DPI). Preferred formats include:

  • PNG (with transparent background)
  • PDF (vectorized)
  • AI or EPS (Adobe Illustrator)
  • PSD (Photoshop)

Do I need to mirror my artwork before uploading? No. Please upload your artwork exactly as you want it to look on the shirt. Our software automatically mirrors the design during the printing process.

What is a "Gang Sheet"? A gang sheet is a single roll or sheet of film where you place multiple designs to maximize space. This is the most cost-effective way to order, as you pay for the total length of the film rather than per individual design. 22 inches wide x your size

Application & Technical

What heat press settings should I use for Monster Transfers? While every heat press varies slightly, our recommended "Monster Standard" settings are:

  • Temperature: 240°F - 265°F
  • Pressure: Medium-Firm (60 PSI)
  • Time: 5–10 seconds
  • Peel: Instance Peel , right away peel, dont let get cold if this happens just heat again for 3 to 5 seconds

Do I need to do a "Second Press"? Yes! After peeling the film, we highly recommend covering the design with parchment paper or a Teflon sheet and pressing for another 5 seconds. This "finishing press" helps lock the ink into the fibers and gives the design a softer feel.

How do I wash garments with DTF transfers? To maximize the life of your print, we recommend:

  • Turn the garment inside out.
  • Machine wash cold or warm.
  • Tumble dry on low heat or hang dry.
  • Avoid using bleach or harsh fabric softeners.
